Health watch: Grants help keep children from smoking
The Paso del Norte Health Foundation's Smoke Free Paso del Norte initiative has awarded four grants to help El Paso and Southern New Mexico organizations with anti-smoking programs for children. Ben Archer Health Center received $80,777 for its KISSS (Kids Initiative and Smoking Support Services) Tobacco Goodbye program in Deming and Hatch. Children in Need of Services (CHINS) Tobacco Education and Cessation Help received $95,736.30 for Botvin LifeSkills classes in school districts of Otero County. The city of El Paso's Get Real About Tobacco program received $135,993 to carry out its initiatives in local schools. Families and Youth Inc. received $73,700 for A Smoke Free Doņa Ana County, which brings Botvin LifeSkills classes to middle-school students in Las Cruces public schools.
